Well the books finally launched!
And what a great day it was too. Plenty of contributors and plenty of people who came along to get their copy.
I believe it was twenty two of us that were there to put a signature to anyones book if they wanted, including the likes of Chris Turnbull, Tony Gibson, Len Arbery, Gary Newman, Tony Meers, Graham Elliott and Mark Walsingham.
It was the first actual book launch I've attended, travelling to Twyford with fellow Osprey member, and fishing partner Gary Newland, we pulled into the car park of the Lands End Inn and soon met up with Osprey chairman Bob Hornegold.
On a lovely sunny morning with the sound of the river Loddon trickling in the background, we made our way into this cracking venue. Besides being a very nice pub it's an anglers delight, with cased specimen fish displayed on the walls and shelves throughout the rooms.
We were soon shaking hands with other members who'd done their bit to be there, and show support not just for the launch, but in Simon King's memory, and for the Cancer Research charity which the book's profits will all end up going to.
As contributors we were ushered into one of the curtained off rooms to make ourselves ready for the public, who were queueing outside, and some I'd heard had been there since 8am!
Sitting along either side of the room we waited as the the lads made their way in, purchased their books, then started to make their way down the tables to get their books signed.
It all started well with people following each other the same way, but as it got more crowded suddenly books were coming from the left, then from the right, and then straight in your face! It was mad, but all very good natured, and after two to three hours things quietened down and the formal signing broke up.
It gave most of us the chance to then grab a pint and have a chat with friends and colleagues. A few photos were taken and the last few books were signed as late-comers rushed round trying to get as many signatures as possible, including some of the contributors themselves!
We are all very proud of the publication and hope it sells well, so if you haven't got a copy yet please order one soon as I'm sure you will enjoy most of the stories within its pages… and also know your money has gone to a great cause.
The book is available from Calm Productions at www.calmproductions.com and priced at £25. It will also be available through Amazon shortly.
