At the beginning of the year I was on the look out for a new bedchair.
Going round the shows gave me the ideal opportunity to try out many of the top products out there… talk about lying down on the job!
I finally decided on the FX Flatliner® from Fox.
It's one of the new generation of 'flat' or 'level' bedchairs that actually look more like a proper bed.
It has a thick central mattress which is really comfortable, and a surrounding thick cushion that covers the edge of the frame, and the elastic that fastens the mattress to it.
The elastic itself is wrapped right around the frame, including through the Cam and right up to the legs, which gives even support across the whole mattress. The eyelets in the mattress, as opposed to material loops, allow the elastic to stretch and retract much more easily.
One of the very clever bits is the Flip-Cam System, which on most beds are uncomfortable obstacles that are a pain when you're on the bed, and actually reduce the width of the mattress, but Fox have come up with a Cam that once the bed is opened, can be locked then rotated 180 degrees to point downwards.
There are six legs on the bed and all are fully adjustable, using the Twist-Lok mechanism, you can hold the leg with one hand, turn the adjuster and the foot drops to the correct length. Let go of the adjuster and it automatically locks in place.
The Flatliner® has been designed with a double hinge bracket that allows the bed to be closed up with space for a standard 3-season sleeping bag to be folded away inside, perfect for storage, and speed of setting up when out on the bank.
Coming in at under 30lbs in weight the Flatliner® isn't heavy, and nor is the price, with the RRP being £299.99, but as usual if you shop around you'll find it cheaper.
